WAYJO 2021 Composer in Residence

Open to Australian citizens and permanent residents, The West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra (WAYJO) Composer and Associate Composer residency programs annually support two emerging composers to develop new works for a large jazz ensemble, offering both generous commission fees and artistic mentorship.

The successful applicant will be required to compose up to three new works, each of between six and eight minutes duration, for the WAYJO Wednesday Night Orchestra. Works must be submitted by Monday September 6, 2021 to receive the advertised commission.

WAYJO Auditions

The WA Youth Jazz Orchestra offers training in big band jazz and improvised modern music. Auditions are usually held annually late each year for every chair in all three big bands.

* PLEASE NOTE: Band Members do not hold paid positions, however some paid opportunities are available for band members with professional level ensembles through private, community & corporate event private bookings.
