Legendary guitarist Ray Walker joins our Monday Night Orchestra (MNO) for a very special night of jazz.

With a career spanning more than six decades, Ray has performed with international greats including Peter Bernstein, John Pisano and Emily Remler, and accompanied stars such as Cilla Black, Matt Monro and John Farnham. In 2024, he was recognised as a State Cultural Treasure – a fitting tribute to one of WA’s most respected musicians.

Adding a unique twist to the evening is the fact that MNO’s Musical Director, trumpeter Ricki Malet, was once a student of Ray’s during his time at WAAPA. Now, years later, Ricki leads WAYJO’s young big band musicians in this collaboration with his former teacher – a full-circle performance celebrating jazz across generations.

Ricki himself is one of Perth’s most in-demand jazz trumpeters, with a career spanning international tours, residencies, and recordings alongside leading ensembles.

Expect big band swing and the finesse of a master guitarist as three generations of WA jazz come together on The Ellington stage.
