Late Jazz at The Maj: The Common Nouns

‘The Common Nouns’ play a combination of jazz standards, funk & fusion classics and a collection of their own groove based original compositions. This contemporary jazz quartet cite as their influences Miles Davis, Vulfpeck and Snarky Puppy, so you know this late jazz set will be eclectic.

The Common Nouns will feature the following line up;
Felix Lemann - Drums
Harry Walters - Guitar
Jacob Greenmount - Keys
Ashan Weerasooriya - Vocals
Rhyan Lyndon-James - Bass

Entry is FREE with tickets to the Saturday evening Jazz at The Maj: The Afro Cuban Explosion show, or $10 for just this Late show.

Late Jazz at The Maj: Axlotl

Hailing from the Perth Hills, Axolotl is all about having a good time. With groovy influences from Roy Hargrove and Herbie Hancock, and some tasteful sounds from Bill Evans and Duke Ellington, the group blends their inspirations to deliver sounds that pushes this ensemble’s dynamic to its limits.

Matt Knight, Finn Owen, Darcy Maishman, Tim Bewick, and Ben Shelley put their current WAAPA tuition on show through a collation of swing, fusion, and blues. With 5 years of playing together, the group brings their absolute best to the stage and pushes their dynamic to its limits.

Entry is FREE with tickets to the Saturday evening Jazz at The Maj: Central Park North New York - Dick Oatts (USA) show, or $10 for just this Late show.

About WAYJO

WA Youth Jazz Orchestra (WAYJO) is WA's leading jazz big band and the premier youth jazz orchestra in Australia. Each year, we engage about 100 emerging and established artists and perform in front of more than 30,000 people across Western Australia.

WAYJO is a not-for-profit organisation and has grown from supporting a single 18-piece ensemble to the three orchestras it has today – the Monday Night Orchestra, Tuesday Night Orchestra and the Wednesday Night Orchestra. Since 1983, WAYJO has nurtured outstanding young musicians, aged between 14 and 25 years, through programs designed to develop life skills like commitment, collaboration and self-confidence.

WAYJO alumni have gone on to successful careers in the music industry locally, nationally and internationally, and continue to contribute to the vibrancy and diversity of Australian culture.
